Illegal export of 34 cubic meters of coniferous timber to Kazakhstan was detained by Chelyabinsk customs officers in cooperation with the Border Directorate of the FSB of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region and the FSB of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region.

The KAMAZ vehicle with timber was detained by customs officers at the Bugristoye checkpoint (Chelyabinsk region). A strategically important resource was transported Kazakhstan using forged documents. According to experts, the cost of the batch is over 100 thousand rubles.

A Kazakhstan citizen - the owner of the smuggled timber - offered a bribe of 50 thousand rubles to the customs officer for the termination of operational-search activities and the return of the vehicle with the goods. The customs officer reported the impending crime to the anti-corruption department of the Chelyabinsk customs. The fact of money transfer was recorded, the intruder was arrested red-handed.

On the fact of strategically important resources smuggling, a criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The article provides for a penalty of 3-7 year of imprisonment with a fine.

In relation to the bribe-giver, the investigative bodies of the Ural Investigative Directorate of Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with a penalty of up to 8 years of imprisonment. The suspect was taken into custody.
